African-American Studies

The African-American Studies minor offers an interdisciplinary perspective on the collective histories, experiences, contributions and social class of African-Americans in the United States and abroad beginning with African roots and the Diaspora.

The program integrates research and scholarship while enabling students to explore theories and methods that will enhance awareness of race relationships and African-American culture. With this understanding, students are prepared for professional endeavors and careers.

This program introduces students to new fields of research and scholarship by integrating the study of African-Americans and race into the curriculum.

Students earn a minor in African-American Studies by completing 18 semester hours (6 courses).
