Please vote for Luke Gregerson for the 2009 MLB Setup Man of the Year
CHICAGO – Former Saint Xavier University pitching standout Luke Gregerson (Park Ridge, Ill./Lyons) is one of just 10 nominees for the 2009 Major League Baseball (MLB) Setup Man of the Year award. The honor is part of the “This Year in Baseball” awards, an annual online staple started in 2002 that gives fans a chance to vote for their favorite players in each of 13 categories. Last season, fans across the globe cast a record, 12-million votes and the winners in each category received their award on the field at the start of the ensuing campaign.
Gregerson finished his rookie season with the San Diego Padres on October 4, and was the team leader in holds (27). He also recorded an impressive 3.24 earned run average (ERA) over 75.0 innings of work and led the Padres in strikeouts (93) among relievers. In addition, Gregerson ranked in a three-way tie for fifth overall in the MLB in holds and was the only rookie listed among the top 10 finishers this season.
