Kansas City, Mo. – With its season-opening exhibition against NCAA Division I DePaul University (Ill.) just over a week away, the Saint Xavier University women’s basketball team learned it had received a No. 7 ranking when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the Preseason Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll from its national office Monday afternoon. The Cougars return four of its five starters, including two NAIA All-Americans, from a team that finished with a 26-5 overall record, first in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) with a 9-1 mark and earned a berth in the “Sweet 16” of the 2009 NAIA Women’s Basketball Division I National Tournament.

SXU faces another grueling non-conference slate this season with exhibitions against three NCAA Division I foes, including DePaul (Nov. 3), University of Illinois-Chicago (Nov. 10) and Loyola University (Nov. 15). The Cougars then head to Jackson, Tenn., to take on defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Union University (Tenn.) as well as No. 9 Lambuth University (Tenn.) in a tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. SXU also face No. 20 Bethel University (Tenn.) in a non-conference match-up on December 4 at the Olivet Nazarene University Tournament in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Saint Xavier opens its 2009-10 campaign on Tuesday, November 3, with an exhibition against DePaul University at McGrath Arena in Chicago. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start.
