Vice President for Business and Finance

Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1846, Saint Xavier University was the first Mercy College in the United States and is Chicago’s oldest Catholic university. Function: The Vice President for Business and Finance will act in a financial leadership role at the University. The scope of the responsibilities will include:
, Lead the preparation of timely, accurate financial statements

, Provide analysis of financial trends and challenges to the President

, Establish and strengthen internal controls and procedures

, Financial planning, including forecasting, annual operating plan and
strategic planning

, Participate actively and assist the President in the successful operation and growth of the University, including as a member of the University’s Cabinet which is comprised of executive management

, Be familiar with Federal student financial aid programs including administration and accounting

, Provide operational reporting and key performance metrics

, Prepare finance-related documentation for Board meetings

, Coordinate and manage third party financial statement audits

, Implement upgrades or integrate accounting systems

, Identify and recommend cost savings opportunities and assist in their implementation where appropriate

, Handle treasury functions, including leading all aspects of the dealings with lender(s)

, Proactive management of Working Capital and Cash

, Ensure adequacy of insurance coverage and leading all aspects of the dealings with insurance broker

, Assist in reporting/compliance with Human Resources and Tax legislation

, Provide for effective management of the University’s resources including ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures are followed for budgeting, cost control, audit, borrowing and investments

, Ensure compliance with reporting for federally-funded programs

, Develop and update policies and procedures governing financial relations with students and the operation of auxiliary enterprises (i.e., residence halls, foodservice, bookstore)

Provide supervision/direction for approximately 50 people in accounting and non-accounting areas such as business operations, finance/accounting, payroll and employee services, public safety, transportation, IT and media.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a seasoned finance executive.
This individual must be able to quickly develop an understanding of the University’s Catholic mission and core values, operational characteristics, business drivers and culture. Critical to this is an understanding of the moving parts of the organization and their interplay with respect to generation of cash flow. The individual should also be an independent, quick and creative business thinker who possesses a high degree of integrity.
Strong candidates should have an undergraduate accounting/finance degree, a CPA and 10-15 years of leadership experience in accounting. Breadth of experience as a financial executive is as important as depth in one or two particular areas. The individual will have served as a strong leader and business enabler to an executive team.
Compensation is comparable to market value. Some relocation expenses may be reimbursed in accordance with University policy.

EDUCATION:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required. A CPA is required. A Master’s degree is preferred but not required.
