The Library will soon introduce a revolutionary new service that will help faculty, staff, and students at Saint Xavier University more easily locate and obtain items needed for their research. The service, called Worldcat Local, allows users to fully integrate their searches for books, DVDs, or journal articles in one interface.
Library users will be able to also search for items throughout the statewide I-Share consortium, or in libraries from around the country. Users will be able to borrow from other libraries; search for articles without regard to which database they are using; create lists of resources and bibliographies and share them with friends or instructors; format citations according to popular style manuals; and add personal reviews and ratings. The Worldcat Local interface will even allow users to buy an item directly from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other companies.
The SXU Library is the first in Illinois to implement this remarkable new research tool.
The Library is testing Worldcat Local throughout the summer. Additional news and information will be posted on Saint Xavier Today as soon as possible.

The Library has introduced BookNews, a new online service for the SXU community. This service gives you access to free electronic newsletters about a new books and videos obtained by the Library on a wide variety of topics. The subject areas include art, biology, business, chemistry, communication, communication sciences and disorders, criminal justice, education, English, history and political science, nursing, psychology, religion, and sociology. One special newsletter focuses on titles that reflect the Mercy Mission, and another lists new movies. Each month, the Library will post about ten new titles for each subject area.
You access the service by clicking on the BookNews graphic found on the Library's web pages and then selecting the newsletters you wish to read. You can also choose to receive the monthly newsletters via e-mail or as RSS feeds on the 16th of each month.
The newsletters include cover images, descriptions, and author commentaries. Links within the newsletters take readers directly to the Library's online catalog so you can easily see if a title is available. You can even leave comments about each item or email the titles to friends.
The Library is among the first academic libraries anywhere to use the BookNews service.
