Five-Year Option

Get a bachelor's and master's degree in just five years!

The Department of Computer Science is excited to announce this option for all computer science students.

Complete the requirements for the Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) or Bachelor of Arts (Computer Studies) and in the third and fourth years take one graduate level course in computing each semester. These 12 credit hours do not fulfill major requirements, but they fulfill both the general electives toward the 120 credit hours necessary to obtain bachelor’s degree and also program requirements towards your master's degree. In the fifth year, you will take 24 hours (eight courses) of graduate courses to complete the master’s degree.

A student in this Accelerated Option must complete the MACS degree program within 18 months from the completion of the Bachelor’s degree in order for the graduate courses to be applied toward the MACS degree.

You may also delay graduating with the bachelor’s degree until the end of the fifth year, and then graduate with both the master’s and bachelor’s degrees at the same time. However, the federal government will only allow undergraduate financial aid for a certain amount of time. Since every student’s situation is different, please consult with the Financial Aid Office before making this decision.

To apply, complete the Application for Five-Year Accelerated Option and submit it to your academic advisor for approval.
