The University Chorale is a large mixed vocal ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Jan Bickel, that has performed a wide variety of choral literature, A Cappella or accompanied by piano, organ, percussion, string quartet or the University orchestra.
The Chorale is comprised of SXU students, faculty, staff and talented community members. Rehearsals are on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Music Department Rehearsal/Performance space. The Chorale performs at least one concert on campus each semester, and student members may choose to audition for placement as soloists on each concert.
The ensemble performs in multiple languages and styles ranging from the chants of Hildegard von Bingen to the music of living Twenty-first Century composers.They have also been heard costumed and on the opera stage in SXU Opera Workshop performances of Die Fledermaus, Dido and Aeneas, and have presented there own concert of opera and musical theater favorites with the University Orchestra.
Registration and participation counts toward the Literature and Fine Arts core requirements. (Prerequisite: Audition)
Excellent participation awards are available through audition for non-music major singers.
