Center for the Study of Financial markets and derivatives

Welcome Message from the Director

Director Parker

Greetings and welcome to the Center for the Study of Financial Markets and Derivatives (CSFMD) at Saint Xavier University Graham School of Management.

Our Center was inaugurated in 2013 with a mission to promote awareness of financial literacy for students and local companies, as well as our local community. The Center is committed to prepare SXU students for today's competitive job market on a national and international level. This involves merging modern finance theories with hands-on practice and real-time data of the world financial markets. The Center provides a state-of-the-art trading floor, 15 high-end configured workstations, real-time data feeds and a variety of analytical and financial software. We enable our students to learn the same technology and analytic tools used by professionals in the industry.

The Center also houses the Cougar Student Managed Hedge Fund, incepted with a grant from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (the CME Group). Under the mentorship of SXU finance faculty members and industrial professionals, student participants can utilize the Center's resources to carry out extensive marketing research and analysis and hence develop trading strategies for the fund. Through active real-world trading, students obtain highly marketable skill sets of finance and enhance their ability of making financial decisions.

During the summers, the Center reaches out to high school students in the Chicago area and provides resources to selected senior students for financial education. The Center regularly hosts involvement programs for high school students to improve financial literacy and to raise their interest in finance, business and technology.

On the research side, the Center offers student assistance and critical data support for selected faculty projects. The research projects cover, but are not limited to: derivatives, corporate financial management, equity pricing and market volatility. Part of our research product is presented at the SXU Economic Summit with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
