Bishop John R. Gorman Institute for Leadership in Catholic Education
The ninth annual Bishop John R. Gorman Institute for Leadership in Catholic Education (BGI) will take place on June 26 and 27 at the Saint Xavier University Orland Park campus.
The 2012 BGI will feature nationally renowned school law expert Sr. Mary Angela Shaughnessy, S.C.N., J.D. , Ph.D., presenting in both the Teachers' and Administrators' Tracks. Sr. Mary Angela is a featured speaker at NCEA and national conferences where she identifies the most pressing legal issues for educators, especially those posed by the burgeoning growth of social media.
James Rabbitt, J.D. Ed.D. will continue that theme in relation to school handbooks and other communications.
An additional track focused on early math education in preschool and primary grades will feature national expert Dr. Juanita Copley.
Dr. Meg Carroll, Mary Hendry, Sr. Carol Mucha, R.S.M., Peggy Roark, Dr. David Bell and other presenters will lead sessions that are designed to support, challenge and encourage administration, faculty and staff of Catholic schools. They will provide strategies for successful learning environments for students with diverse skills and backgrounds.
Some of this year's topics include: Legal Issues in Schools, Reflections on Leadership, Strategies for RtI and Differentiated Instruction, Get Moving!, Adaptations and Accommodations for Students with Disabilities and Others who Struggle, Asperger Syndrome in Typical Schools, and Classroom and School Climate.
Cost
The cost of the two days is $200, with a special price of $500 for three persons from
the same school. CPDUs may be earned, with the option of graduate credit for a discounted
price.
The BGI is eligible for most Title IIA funding and some scholarship assistance is
available.
