Level I: Introduction to University Learning

  • COMM 101: Speech Fundamentals (3 hours)
  • Mathematics (3 hours)

Level II: Broadening Learning in the Arts and Sciences

  • Natural Science
    • life science (3 credit hours)
    • physical science (3 credit hours)
  • Social Science
    • two courses in different disciplines (6 credit hours)
  • History
    • two courses (6 credit hours)
  • Art, Humanities, Music, Literature
    • two courses in different disciplines (6 credit hours)
  • Philosophy
    • one course (3 credit hours)
  • Religious Studies
    • two courses (6 credit hours)

Level III: Integrating Learning and Experience

  • Interdisciplinary Seminar (3 credit hours)

University General Education Credits

  • Diversity Studies
    • two  courses (6 credit hours)
  • Global Studies
    • two courses (6 credit hours)

Additional Degree-Specific Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Art
    • foreign language, foreign culture or global studies (6 credit hours)
  • Bachelor's of Science
    • math, computer science or natural science (6 credit hours)

Total Hours (52-58 Credit Hours)

The number of hours varies according to how students utilize those courses that can meet more than one-degree requirement (e.g., the First Year Seminar and the Interdisciplinary Seminar can also meet Level II distribution requirements).

The Diversity Studies and Global Studies requirements specify that students must take courses that count for these areas over the course of their undergraduate education, whether in general education or the major. They do not add hours to the general education program.
