Credit Card Service Fee FAQs
Why is Saint Xavier University charging a service fee to use a credit card to pay my tuition and fees?
The credit card payment method has become prohibitively expensive because of the fees charged by credit card companies to Saint Xavier University for credit card transaction processing. Historically, the costs associated with credit card use were absorbed by the University. As a result of budget reductions, the University has elected to impose the service fee to defray these costs rather than divert limited remaining resources from instructional activities.
A non-refundable service fee of 2.75 percent will be added to each credit card transaction when paying tuition and fees on your student account. This fee is to offset the processing fee the University must pay to the credit card processor.
Saint Xavier University will accept MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards through the online self service portal. The University will no longer accept Visa credit or Visa debit cards for the payment of tuition and fees. Credit cards will only be accepted through the online self service portal. A computer kiosk will be available for use in the Office of the Bursar if you do not have internet access.
Yes, debit cards are treated in the same manner as credit cards and will be subject to the non-refundable 2.75 percent service fee. Visa debit cards will not be accepted for the payment of tuition and fees.
You can avoid paying the credit card service fee by paying online with an e-check, which is an electronic debit to your checking or savings account. There is no charge to pay by e-check.
