About the Counselor
What do you do for fun?
Believe it or not - I enjoy couponing for fun! I first became interested in this hobby when I was watching the TLC show "Extreme Couponing" and was mesmerized that these shoppers could leave big name stores with hundreds of dollars of merchandise and only pay a couple of bucks! I am not even close to that level of expertise or dedication but I have learned so much from different websites and short YouTube videos, and it is pretty exhilarating when you can leave a store with free toothpaste or shampoo!
What are your favorite things to do in Chicago?
Eating and shopping! Always open to suggestions on restaurants to try or stores where I can scope out the best deals and sales!
What is your advice for a student interested in transferring to SXU?
Start thinking about transferring as early as possible and plan accordingly! Always talk with your advisor at the community college (or college/university) about your plans for the future so you can take classes that will transfer into SXU. For all students, freshmen and transfer, in terms of financial aid, never underestimate searching for and applying to scholarships, and always file your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible after January 1!
What is your favorite season in Chicago? Why?
Definitely summer. After the long, harsh Chicago winters and a spring season that is always unpredictable, summer is much needed. Plus there is always so much going on in the city in the summer like the Taste of Chicago, street festivals, and concerts so it's nice to get outside after hibernating for the past few months.
What was your major in college and why did you choose it? How has it helped you do your job at SXU?
My major in college was Secondary English Education. I chose to pursue education because I loved working with students and helping them to realize their potential and to (hopefully) ignite a love for learning. I always loved the idea of becoming a teacher because teachers impact so many lives and hold a great responsibility to shape the youth into well-rounded citizens.
Why do you like your job?
I have always been passionate about education and I love having the opportunity to work in higher education. My older sister and I were the first in our immediate family to attend college and it is easy to say we both made quite a few mistakes along the way. Navigating the process of higher education can sometimes be tricky, and I think working in admissions is the perfect fit for me because we have the option to work with students and families throughout the college going process as well as many different departments on campus.
Cubs or Sox?
Sox! The best baseball game I have ever gone to was the Crosstown Classic between the Sox and Cubs.
Favorite day of the week and why?
Sunday, because a Sunday well spent brings a week of content!
