School of Education Scholarships and Awards
Please read each scholarship and awards application (listed on the left of this page) for specific criteria and application deadlines.
All scholarships are tuition grants available for summer and fall 2013 and spring 2014
Most applications must be submitted by December 15, 2012, and winners will be announced in February 2013. Only complete applications which follow scholarship's directions will be considered. You will be notified if your application is incomplete.
Friends of Uncle Mike Education Scholarship
The Friends of Uncle Mike Education Scholarship is open to sophomore or junior undergraduate students in the elementary education program of the School of Education. This scholarship is funded by the family of the late Michael Lynch. Past scholarship awards have been approximately $5,000.
Dorothy Ritter Davis Scholarship
The Dorothy Ritter Davis Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Education with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. This scholarship is funded by a donation from the late Dorothy Ritter Davis, class of 1933. Past tuition grants have been approximately $5,800.
Elaine Gallagher Science Scholarship
The Elaine Gallagher Science Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Education who are science majors in secondary education or students in early childhood or elementary education who may teach science at any level. This scholarship is funded by a donation from the estate of alumna Elaine Gallagher and gifts given in her memory. Past tuition grants have been approximately $2,200.
Lloyd Leake Scholarship
The Lloyd Leake Scholarship is open to undergraduate African-American students in the School of Education. This scholarship is funded by the family of the late Dr. Lloyd Leake, former dean of the School of Education. Past tuition grants have been approximately $2,300.
Dorothy Binder Scholarship
The Dorothy Binder Scholarship is open to admitted graduate students in the School of Education. This scholarship is funded by donations in honor of the late Dr. Dorothy Binder, former School of Education faculty member. Past tuition grants have been approximately $1,800.
Julius and Catherine Heerey Malin Scholarship
The Julius and Catherine Heerey Malin Scholarship is open to School of Education undergraduate or graduate students with a grade-point average of 2.8 or higher. This scholarship is funded by the estate of the late Ms. Helen Heerey, in honor of Julius and Catherine Heerey Malin. Past tuition grants have been approximately $3,300.
George and Eunice McGuire Scholarship
The George and Eunice McGuire Scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Education. This scholarship is funded by the estate of the late Dr. George and Mrs. Eunice McGuire. Past tuition grants have been approximately $4,000 each, for one undergraduate and one graduate winner.
George K. McGuire Award
The George McGuire Award recognizes an alumnus or alumna for distinguished service to Saint Xavier University and the field of education.
Sister Mary Dominic Merwick Award
The Sister Mary Dominic Merwick Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recognizes an undergraduate student who has displayed high academic achievement, exemplary student teaching and service to education.
Sister M. Irenaeus Chekouras Student Award
The Sister M. Irenaeus Chekouras Outstanding Graduate Student Award recognizes a graduate student who has displayed high academic achievement, service to education and outstanding contribution to scholarship, based on excellence in writing as evidenced by a research project or other scholarly paper.
