Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Steering Committee

Minutes from March 6, 2008

  1. Sponsoring half-time @ men’s basketball game
Event went great.  Only feedback was that the participants of these half-time games are typically younger people, so the Starbucks gift cards might not have been entirely appropriate, but still was fine.

  2. Alcohol Awareness Month Activities
    1. Bulletin boards: 5 Res Halls, Shannon Center, WAC, OPC
    2. Information table at OPC with pamphlets and pens/cups
    3. SXToday announcements every Wednesday (see below)
    4. Chalking campus (see below)
    5. Thursday, April 10, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Alcohol Screening Day.
    6. Thursday, April 17, 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  DUI Simulator (tentative time)
    7. Tuesday, April 22, lunch time.  Mock-tails in the dining hall (tentative date)
    8. Sexual Assault Awareness Month collaboration (Apr 28 – May 2) (BRIAN)
    9. Any other suggestions?
Suggestions include working with Gilhooley’s for events, perhaps they can provide gift certificates to give away.  Make sure when ordering from Chartwells to ask for mixes, not bottled drinks.  Suggestions for locations of the DUI Sim. include Lot 8 or the Quad by the Res Halls.  Include ACHA data in advertising and social norms campaigns, since the sample size is larger.

  3. CORE – look to repeat in Spring, 2010
What did Mary Ann do??  What was the sample size of the ACHA, and what techniques did she use to get a good response?  Maybe have the RAs remind at programs.
