Whiting, Ind. -- The Saint Xavier University men’s club volleyball team played its first-ever match Thursday against Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Ind. Although the Cougars lost in three games, 20-30, 27-30, 25-30, head coach Bob Heersema feels that, with the right amount of preparation and coaching, the team has enough talent to be successful.
“This team has some talented players and will continue to get better after more practice and matches,” said head coach Bob Heersema. “We played a respectable match against Calumet-St. Joseph, especially considering the program just got started and we have had only one official practice,” said Heersema. “This team has some talented players and will continue to get better after more practice and matches.”
Sophomore setter and outside hitter Luke Schrieber led SXU with 11 kills in the match. Junior outside hitter Brad Sheehan had the program’s first kill and first block. Sheehan is also the placekicker for the SXU football team.
