Pre-Professional Programs

Biology majors, in consultation with their advisors, may choose courses of study which prepare them for specialized training in the following areas.

Pharmacy Science

The Pre-Pharmacy program at Saint Xavier is a two or three-year course of study designed to prepare students to enter pharmacy schools. Pre-Pharmacy students will be assigned academic advisors to assist them in course selection and admission to colleges of pharmacy.

Medicine

The minimum required science coursework for admission to medical schools within the United States includes one year of biology, two years of chemistry, one year of physics and a course in mathematics. However, most students applying to medical schools will have completed significantly more than one year of biology courses. The Pre-Med Track in Biology will provide a solid foundation in biology for pursuing a career in medicine.

Students should investigate the specific program requirements of the schools to which they will be applying.
