Commencement Liturgy
Friday, May 10, 2013
4:30 p.m.
McDonough Chapel
Presiding at the liturgy is Father Robert Oldershaw. Ordained in 1962, Father Robert Oldershaw worked in parishes across Chicago serving communities in Hyde Park, downtown Chicago and Lincoln Park before returning to St. Nicholas Parish in his Evanston hometown, where he currently serves as pastor emeritus. For a number of years, he served as associate director for music of the Office for Divine Worship, helping parishes adapt to the then-recent changes stemming from the Second Vatican Council. He has written articles and pieces of music and has served as the liturgical editor of Worship (Third Edition, GIA Publications), a hymnal used in churches across the country. In 1999, Father Oldershaw was featured in a documentary film entitled A Justice That Heals, which recounts how he brought together and fostered forgiveness between the family of a murder victim and the individual who killed their son. Father Oldershaw remains active in the Evanston community and in various social justice causes.
Graduates and their guests are invited to the Commencement Eucharistic Liturgy. Tickets are not required. Graduating students are asked to wear their academic regalia and arrive at 4:00 p.m. for lineup and procession. Academic regalia must be picked up on regalia distribution day.
