Beginner 5K Running Program (Starts April 16) - This program is geared for beginner runners.  There are four running coaches and participants will be teamed up with a coach.  The coaches will teach proper form, pace, breathing, running apparel and proper shoes.  Pace groups range from 10- to 14-minute miles.  The goal is to be able to run a 5K (3.1 miles) at the end of the training. This program is free for SXU Students, faculty and staff.  Non-SXU students, faculty and staff pay $15 per person. Registration at the door. 

10K Running Program (Starts April 16) - This program is geared for participants ready to increase their mileage.  Participants must be able to run at least 2.5 miles in order to join this group. There are two running coaches for the 10K group and the pace groups will range from a 10- to 12-minute milepace. The goal is to be able to run a 10K (6.2 miles) at the end of the six weeks.  This program is free for SXU Students, faculty and staff. Non-SXU students, faculty and staff pay $15 per person. Registration at the door. 

Run to Lose Program (Starts April 18) - This program is geared for those who want to lose weight through running and proper nutrition. The participant will attend the 5K or 10K training program on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Then every Wednesday for six weeks starting Wednesday, April 18 participants will attend a half hour nutrition class from 6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the Shannon Center. The nutrition class is led by registered dietician Kelly Devine. Participants will learn the importance of proper nutrition and training, hydration, meal timing and supplements to help reach your training goals.  The cost is $40  per person for SXU students, faculty and staff.  Non-SXU students, faculty and staff pay $55 per person. We are training for the 35th Annual BAPA Ridge Run held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28 in Beverly/Morgan Park. To register for the Ridge Run log onto www.bapa.org

Summer Slim Down Program (Starts June 7) - This program teaches you the benefits of both exercise and nutrition. Learn what kind of cardio and strength exercises you need to do to lose weight and get in shape. You will also learn about target heart rate range and where it should be for exercise and weight loss results. We will do some workouts during class after a new nutrition lesson each week. This class is led by registered dietician Kelly Devine. The program starts on Thursday, June 7 and will end Thursday, August 2.  Classes meet on Thursdays from 6 - 7 p.m. in the Shannon Center (there will be no class on Thursday, July 5). The cost is $60 for SXU students, faculty, staff and Shannon Center members and $75 for community members. Participants will receive a food/exercise journal, sample meal plan, pre- and post-exercise nutrition guidelines and exercise tips! *Space is limited to the first 25 participants.
