Why should I become an alumni mentor?
SXU alumni mentors provide valuable advice to current students regarding their own education and career development and other career-related issues and topics. You will be a valuable liaison between Saint Xavier University and careers.

How many alumni mentors are currently available to students?
We have over 100 active alumni mentors, representing a variety of career fields, available to talk to SXU students… and the list continues to grow everyday!

What are some of the career paths represented by the SXU alumni mentors?
Some of our alumni mentors career fields include: Nursing, Education, Speech Pathology, Human Resources, Law Enforcement, Financial Services, Management, Accounting, Business Administration, Music and Counseling.

How do I join the Alumni Mentoring Program?
You may complete a program information sheet available in Counseling and Career Services (CCS), or online, which will include information regarding your current career field as well as on-campus and off-campus involvement while attending Saint Xavier University, and return it to the Alumni Mentoring Program Coordinator in Counseling and Career Services. Your name and contact information will be placed in a database in the CCS office. The Program Coordinator will maintain this information and use it to match you with a student(s) in the months to come.

How will I be notified about my student match?
The Alumni Mentoring Program Coordinator will contact you via telephone or e-mail when a student is matched with you. Students will schedule a brief meeting in CCS to obtain their mentor’s work telephone number and e-mail address and to discuss program policies and procedures.

How will I get in contact with my student match?
It will be the student’s responsibility to contact you via telephone or e-mail. Your student match may ask you to meet to discuss your education and career development in person, or you may both choose to continue to speak via telephone or e-mail.

What information should I share with my student match?
Students will want you to share perspectives on your own education and career development, offer advice about your professional field and share advice on how to prepare for life after graduation!

Will students ask me for job leads?
We tell our students that alumni mentors are volunteering their time to give them valuable advice about life after graduation. We discourage students from asking alumni mentors about job opportunities unless the alumni mentor initiates the subject of job leads with the student.

Do I have to report back to Counseling and Career Services after I meet with my student match?
We will provide you with a program evaluation when you receive your student match. If possible, we would like to hear how your meetings with your student are going throughout the year.
