New Faculty Orientation

Objectives: To acclimate new faculty to SXU culture and structure, and to provide information and ongoing support for teaching, service and professional development.

Scholar Recognition

Objectives: To acknowledge faculty who have distinguished themselves by their scholarly accomplishments.

Annual SXU Research Conference

Objectives: To provide opportunities for faculty/staff/students to present and discuss ongoing scholarly work in a shared formal setting.

Visiting Scholar Programs

Objectives: To enrich the quality of teaching and scholarship of SXU faculty; to foster awareness of current important issues in academe.

25 Year Club

Objectives: To support emeriti faculty by providing several layers of connection to the institution, especially through connection with working faculty with 25 or more years of service.

Grant Proposal Writing Workshops

Objectives: To provide faculty with specific techniques and motivation to write grants for their own research or curriculum development.

In-House Presentations: Food For Thought

Objectives: To provide opportunities for faculty to present scholarly work at various stages and to learn more about the scholarly work of colleagues.

In-House Presentations: Focus on Teaching

Objectives: To provide opportunities for faculty to present examples of teaching and learning innovations.

Ethics in America Series

A yearlong series of lectures and panel discussions by invited external speakers and SXU faculty members. These events are co-sponsored the local chapter of the AAUP and the Center.

Teaching Workshops

Objectives: To strengthen and support the teaching skills of faculty at all stages of their careers; to encourage faculty to examine their practices in light of current literature on teaching and learning and to engage in dialogue with colleagues about their teaching.

Connections Publication

Objectives: To share with our SXU community and beyond interesting and innovative teaching, scholarly work and community service activities of our SXU faculty and to present information about issues in teaching and learning.

Research Grants

Objectives: To encourage scholarship and professional growth among faculty and students.

Technology Mentoring Program

Objectives: To support faculty in the use of technology through mentoring from faculty with technology expertise.  Programs are developed jointly with the Center for Academic Technology (create link). Funding was provided for two years through an AT&T grant, and continues to be supported by an ACI-SBC grant.

Peer Counseling

Objectives: To address teaching issues and concerns of individual faculty members in a non-threatening, confidential manner.
