Communication Sciences and Disorders

Study in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders leads to an understanding of human communication and its disorders. The department offers undergraduate major and minor programs as well as a graduate program in speech-language pathology.

Undergraduate students develop an understanding of the basic human communication and swallowing processes, and begin an investigation into communication disorders. Graduate students prepare themselves to become competent speech-language pathologists by developing the necessary knowledge and skills to understand, assess and treat persons with communication and swallowing disorders.

Students who complete their graduate studies become speech-language pathologists in a variety of work settings, including hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers, university clinics, special education and early childhood centers as well as private practice.
