The Graduate Program in Speech-Language Pathology currently enrolls sixty-one, full-time students. This has been a consistent number during the past two years. It is anticipated thirty-two new students will be admitted for the Fall, 2008 semester.
A successful scores on the PRAXIS exam, administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) is now required for licensure in speech pathology in the State of Illinois. The profile of Saint Xavier University students has been exemplary. The annual report from PRAXIS for the time period 09/01/2006 through 08/31/2007, included results from a total of 20 Saint Xavier students. All had passing scores.
Since August, 2007, there has been one examination in which SXU students participated. This was on 02/08/2008. At that time 8 CSDIG students sat for the exam and all passed. There was an additional offering in March, 2008. Results from that administration are not yet available.
Prospects for employment in speech-language pathology within the State of Illinois are excellent, as they are in the neighboring states, Indiana and Wisconsin. The sixty graduates of the past two years (2006, 2007) were all gainfully employed upon graduation and, to the best of our knowledge, remain so today.
