Senior Projects

Senior Project

COMM 369

Senior Project is a requirement for all majors in the Department of Communication. This course consists of extensive, independent, high quality work on a project of the student's choosing. Working in conjunction with a faculty advisor, the student can develop projects in any of several areas of interest. For example, a student may:

  • Conduct scholarly research on matters pertaining to communication.
  • Create an effective media campaign (public relations and/or advertising) for a product, service, event or person.
  • Produce an audio or video presentation of substance and scope.
  • Develop an organizational communication case study.
  • Analyze local and/or network programming (radio or television) and develop alternative program schedules that reflect audience demographics and community needs.
  • Create a photojournalism essay on topics of concern to the community.
  • Create a series of feature articles around a theme of interest to readers of specific magazines and/or newspapers.
  • Develop/write a series of programs (audio or video) with full proposal for presentation to a station, network or syndicator.
  • Develop a story idea from concept to treatment and on through final screenplay.
  • Create experimental presentations for audio or video.

When work on a senior project is completed to the student's and faculty advisor's satisfaction, it will be presented to all faculty in the Department of Communication in a formal setting for critique and final evaluation. These formal sessions will be held at the end of fall and spring semesters and will include all students working on senior projects that semester.

All communication majors must complete a Senior Project.

You will need to register for COMM 369 (Senior Project) for the semester that you plan to complete the project.

Projects are presented at the end of each fall and spring semester. Senior Project is not offered during the summer semester.
