You can take 1, 2 or 3 credit hours. A minimum 75 contact hours at the internship location is required for each credit hour (75 hours = 1 credit, 150 hours = 2 credits, 225 hours = 3 credits).
The semester before you plan to register for your internship, you should make an appointment with the internship coordinator, Professor James R.Walker (office phone: (773) 298-3370, e-mail: walker@sxu.edu).
The internship/practicum has two major requirements:
COMM 365, Internship/Practicum, is offered every semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer)
The internship coordinator maintains a file of internship locations that may suit your needs. Many students find excellent internship locations through their own initiatives and contacts. Most organizations require you to complete an application form, provide a resume, and be interviewed by the internship supervisor. We strongly recommend that you look at the web site of any organization that you are interested in for information about their internship program.
At the start of the last week of classes, an evaluation form will be sent to your internship evaluator/supervisor. This evaluation and your internship paper will be used to determine your grade for COMM 365. The internship evaluation (PDF) will be the more important of these two factors.
