Master of Applied Computer Science

The Master of Applied Computer Science (MACS) program is designed to further students' understanding of the computing technologies shaping our world today and to prepare students for sustaining a life-long contribution to a technology-related career. The MACS program provides students with a theoretical and practical understanding of important areas in the computing field. This program may be completed in 16 months by completing two evening courses (9 credit hours) each semester for four consecutive semesters. A Master of Business Administration degree may be completed by taking additional 24 graduate credit hours from the Graham School of Management.

Entrance Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Students who have a bachelor's in a discipline other than computer science or business with computer related coursework may substitute work experience as a prerequisite for entry.
  • Individuals who have received non-computer-related undergraduate degrees may substitute relevant work experience as a prerequisite for entry into the program.
  • College graduates who have not worked or studied in a computing field may become eligible for the program by either taking courses at Saint Xavier prior to their enrollment in the program (a conditional acceptance will be considered) or by providing documentation that they have completed similar courses at another institution. Students wishing to pursue this option should consult with the Program Director.
  • Students with no experience in programming will be required to gain proficiency in one programming language (for example, Visual Basic, C, Java, C#, or C++) prior to acceptance into the program.
  • Students without an undergraduate database course or significant experience in this field will be required to take an introductory level database course prior to ACSG 552. Please contact the Program Director for advice on fulfilling these requirements.

Applying to the Program

Applying students must be admitted into the program; student-at-large hours are not permitted. Please contact the Graduate Admission Office for application materials or apply online. In addition to the Master of Applied Computer Science degree, a joint Master of Business Administration & Master of Applied Computer Science dual degree can be completed by taking additional 24 credit hours from the Graham School of Management.
