Why should I consider a major in Professional Studies?

The Professional Studies major is intended for adult transfer students with work experience and prior learning, which is integrated in a collaborative learning environment to build professional skills. Courses are accelerated with an option of either online or hybrid instruction.

What can I do with a BA in Professional Studies?

A BA in Professional Studies would open doors in many fields, including marketing, sales, business, management, and hospitality industries.

Do I need to transfer an A.A. or A.S. to be admitted?

No, but transferring at least 60 credit hours will allow you to complete your degree quicker. If transferring under 60 credit hours, your advisor will develop an educational plan that will project course offerings and a completion time frame.

How long does it take to complete each program?

The actual program is developed to be completed in as little as 18 moths, while taking a full-time course load. Students may also take courses on a part-time basis as well.

Although I work full time, do you offer financial aid to adult transfer students?

Yes, financial aid is available to students based on need, merit or eligibility. Our representatives in the Financial Aid office are available to assist you with funding your education.

Do you offer online instruction?

Yes, we offer online and hybrid instruction.

What is the difference between hybrid and online instruction?

Hybrid instruction combines computer base and in-class (face-to-face) instruction, while online courses are totally computer base learning.  Both instructional formats may require readings, postings, and exams electronically. Your faculty member will guide you through the process.

What kind of materials will I receive?

Students will receive CDs that include their syllabi, supporting material for each course, e-portfolio kit and a schedule outlining dates and times of the program curriculum.

Will I have an advisor throughout my academic studies?

Yes, your advisor will create a program plan that shows your course requirements and/or options for credit for prior learning (i.e. CLEP, Portfolio, and ACE).

Can I earn college-level credit for prior learning in the workplace?

Yes, credit can be earned for verifiable learning, either knowledge or skills acquired during life or work experience. Students with a military background may also be considered for college-level credit.

Will I have assignments or exams?

Yes, there will be exams and various assignments. Students will receive their course syllabi at the start of the program that will outline required assignments.

Do you provide internships, résumé writing and/or job counseling for students?

Yes, the program is structured to build skills for your current employer or for a change in careers. Internships and career counseling is available. Students may visit Counseling and Career Services or call (773) 298-3131.

Will there be any assessments?

Yes, assessments will be implemented to secure your success in the program. Such instruments to be distributed will be learning styles inventories, basic skills, career planning.

When are classes held?

Classes are held days, evenings and Saturdays.  Tuesdays and Thursdays classes are offered from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m .and 6:30 p.m.  – 9:20 p.m. Saturday classes are offered at various times between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

What kinds of academic support services are available at Orland Park Campus?

The Orland Park Campus Library is open 6 days a week.  There is a faculty advisor available to all students of this program. Tutoring is available on an as needed basis.
