Irish Studies Non-Credit Certificate Program

Overview

Ireland has a rich culture filled with art, history, language, literature, dance and music. A large population of Irish descendents bring a strong tradition of these customs to Chicago’s Southland. To continue the legacy and broaden the awareness of Irish heritage, the School for Continuing and Professional Studies will offer a non-credit Irish Studies certificate program.

The objectives of this program are:

  • To develop an awareness and understanding of the traditions, experiences and characteristics of Ireland through study of its history, language, literature, arts and music.
  • To develop the ability to critically analyze Irish literature, culture, history and social science.
  • To develop an appreciation of a culture that, for some, may not be their own.
