Liberal Studies Program

This program is designed for students interested in a well-rounded, broadly based liberal education. A major in liberal studies in the School for Continuing and Professional Studies offers a unique interdisciplinary curriculum. It is excellent preparation for those students who plan to go on to graduate work, particularly in law, social services or human services. Liberal studies curriculum provides a foundation for many careers, given the interest of companies in hiring people with broad knowledge, strong oral and written communication, and analytical skills fostered by a liberal arts education. The program not only provides a broad background in the liberal arts, but offers students the option of a concentration in business administration, computer studies, communication, English, history, philosophy, psychology, sociology/anthropology, and religious studies. The unique quality of this program offers flexibility to curricular options as the student reaches the upper-division work. After students have achieved a specific content base and an understanding of the various modes of communication specific to the liberal arts and sciences, they can elect to continue with their area of concentration by taking coursework or by working on a special project.
