  1. SCPS Overview

The School for Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) is responsible for the oversight and coordination of the Liberal Studies major and the “adult” core curriculum designed for SCPS matriculated adult learners at Saint Xavier University.

The Liberal Studies major includes general courses and a concentration area. SCPS students who major in Liberal Studies may select one of the following concentrations for their major: Art, Business Administration, Computer Studies, Criminal Justice, English, Religious Studies, History, Organizational Communication, Philosophy, Industrial Organizational Psychology, Social Science, Sociology/Anthropology and Religious Studies. The areas of concentration require students to complete 18 credit hours in the selected discipline.

The “adult” Core includes full/part-time adult students at the undergraduate level majoring in various programs jointly administered by the SCPS in partnership with the Graham School of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Nursing all of which currently list majors that are available to SCPS students.

  1. SCPS Curriculum Committee Goals

The SCPS Curriculum Committee will provide guidance to the Dean with matters regarding curriculum and administrative policies that are responsive to the needs of the undergraduate adult population at Saint Xavier University.

Responsibility of the SCPS Curriculum Committee:

    • The SCPS Curriculum Committee will assist in the development of academic programs, thus following the philosophy and mission of Saint Xavier University.
    • The SCPS Curriculum Committee will review Liberal Studies major by addressing and recommending:
      • Course structure/ content of major
      • Learning outcomes/objectives (defining specific skills and knowledge requirements)
      • Assessment
    • The SCPS Curriculum Committee will review “adult” core curriculum and its policies by addressing and recommending:
      • Structure/content of curriculum
      • Course substitutions
      • Learning outcomes/objectives (defining specific skills and knowledge requirements)
      • Assessment
    • The SCPS Curriculum Committee will review and recommend proposals for new majors and courses.

  1. Membership to the SCPS Curriculum Committee

To ensure that the SCPS curricula remains current and new programs/courses are created at both campuses, the SCPS Curriculum Committee will comprise of faculty representing each academic School who have expertise and/or interest in growth and development of undergraduate adult programs.  Also, the Committee will follow University protocol for approvals.
