Introduction

The first step to becoming a Saint Xavier University student is participating in a FOCUS (Freshman Orientation Centered on University Services) session this coming summer. FOCUS is designed specifically to make your transition to college life as smooth as possible. One of the philosophical foundations of this program is Success with Purpose, Saint Xavier’s distinctive approach to fostering student achievement in all areas of life. Students attending last year's FOCUS sessions are still heard talking about the great time they had meeting new classmates and learning about SXU.

So what is FOCUS? It's a fun overnight orientation to Saint Xavier University during which new students receive their fall class schedules and learn about student life. The one hundred and twenty five incoming freshmen that participate in each of the FOCUS sessions will stay overnight in one of SXU's residence halls, meet lots of other people, and have a great experience. What's more, participants will be introduced to campus resources and support services - people and areas that will ensure their successful transition to Saint Xavier University.

FOCUS isn't just for students - it involves parents or guardians, as well. They will be invited to campus for their own special parent orientation program. Everyone will be greeted by University leaders, enjoy a campus cookout, participate in informational presentations and attend a department fair.

Bottom-line: this is one action-packed orientation program! We're always mindful that SXU students have a busy summer schedule - so we keep it relevant, informative, fast-paced and fun.
