In conjunction with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, the General Education Committee (GEC) is soliciting competitive proposals from faculty interested in developing First-Year Seminar courses to be piloted in 2008-2009 and then as regular offerings during 2009-2010.
GEC is interested in encouraging faculty to develop courses in the liberal arts and sciences disciplines in their areas of expertise that would be directed toward first-year students and designed to offer them an introduction to university learning. These would include courses in the natural sciences, social sciences, history, art, humanities, music, literature, philosophy, religious studies, and economics. GEC and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning will award competitive grants to eight General Education Fellows at $2000 each.
Eligibility and Duties:
Any full-time faculty member who has taught more than two semesters at the University is eligible to apply for a General Education Fellowship Grant. In applying, he or she is agreeing to fulfill the following expectations:

At most, two members of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning Advisory Council may apply in a single year, and any member who applies must recuse themselves from all aspects of the review and selection process.
