Leaving your Mark on Saint Xavier University
Mary's Circle has distinguished itself as one of the most important landmarks on our campus. It is the beautiful home to one of our most treasured sculptures, "Our Lady." Hundreds of alumni and friends have chosen to leave lasting tributes to loved ones or to commemorate special occasions.
You can be a part of this beautiful memorial by purchasing a brick to be placed in Mary's Circle for $150. At your request, gift notifications may be sent to whomever you wish to honor. Bricks are installed twice a year, before May Commencement and Homecoming Weekend.
To request a brochure or order your commemorative brick, please contact the Office for University Advancement at 773-298-3907.
History of "Our Lady"
"Our Lady" was designed by former chairperson of the Saint Xavier Department of Art and Design, Linae Frei, '58, and first dedicated in 1964. The original sculpture was made possible by the generosity of alumni, friends and supporters of Saint Xavier whom underwrote the project by purchasing square inches of land at the west end of the campus lake for $1. The first home of "Our Lady" came to be known as Our Lady's Acre.
After some 20 years of exposure to the elements, the much-weathered "Our Lady" was restored and refurbished by master craftsman and renowned sculpture conservator Andrej Dajnowski. At that time, it was moved to its current location, by the west entrance.
