History & Political Science

The Department of History and Political Science supports the University mission of liberal arts education in providing scholarship, academic programs and extra-curricular activities to help students better understand the diverse world in which they live, how that world developed and how to be effective and responsible citizens of that world.

Teaching within the department focuses on the mastery of content and methods of history and political science. Such teaching fosters student learning that is collaborative, individual and participatory. It emphasizes the acquisition of knowledge, the development of communication and critical thinking skills through the evaluation and use of evidence, and reflections on the limitations and accomplishments of the current order.
