HLC Self-Study

The Saint Xavier self-study was a two-year assessment of how the University meets or exceeds standards established by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It was conducted in preparation for the Higher Learning Commission’s visit to the University, which took place in the fall of 2007 for the University’s 10-year accreditation. Members of the North Central Association are accredited every 10 years to ensure high standards of excellence. Saint Xavier was last accredited in 1997.

The NCA was founded in 1895 and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation as an accrediting agency.

To be accredited, NCA members must demonstrate how they meet NCA criteria. The purpose of the self-study, in part, is to produce evidence in connection with the University’s fulfillment of the criteria and to involve the entire university in that process.

The self-study for fall 2007 was coordinated by a steering committee led by Barbara Becker, Associate Professor and Chairperson of Mathematics, and Richard Venneri, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.
