During their junior year students complete some form of Fieldwork that provides hands on experience in their area of professional interest. Fieldwork might take the form of a local internship, study abroad or applied research under the direction of a faculty mentor.
Honors 350 - Honors Field Work I (3 s.h.) Fall
Hands on experience that enriches learning in the student's area of interest. Field Work will be arranged jointly by the student and Honors Field Work Coordinator. It might include local internships, an apprenticeship at a research laboratory, on campus research under faculty direction, study abroad or group creative or research activities. Students in the course will continue to meet as a group on a regular basis.
Honors 351 - Honors Field Work II (3 s.h.) Spring
A continuation of 350. Students may continue in the same Field Work placement or, in consultation with the Honors Field Work Coordinator, they may select a different placement. By the end of this course students, working in collaboration with faculty mentors, will have formulated fairly detailed proposals for their senior year research or creative projects.
In their senior year they complete a substantial research or creative project under the direction of a faculty member in their major, and present the products at a spring Honors Conference, to which all Honors students, their families and friends and the entire University community is invited. Honors students at Saint Xavier experience more that just a series of courses: they create and flourish in a vital community of peers that is personally and intellectually reinforcing and stimulating.
Honors 352 - Honors Senior Project I (3 s.h.) Fall
Independent or group research and writing, undertaken successfully to execute the student's senior year creative or research proposal.
Honors 353 - Honors Senior Project II (3 s.h.). Spring
A continuation of 352. By the end of this course, students will have completed and presented the products of their senior year research or creative projects.
