An increasing number of technology services on campus require the use of your SXU domain user name and password for access.
Current faculty and staff may request a domain user name and password by completing the SXU Domain Access for Windows and Exchange Request Form (PDF) and returning it to Information Services in room S-121 in the Warde Academic Center.
SXU domain user names and passwords are automatically created for all newly registered students and sent in a message to their University electronic mailbox (@sxu.edu). An SXU domain user name and password is required to access the workstations in the Library and in the information technology labs.
Staff and faculty receive domain user names of the form first initial + middle initial + last initial + one serializing digit, for instance, fml2. Staff and faculty receive university electronic mailbox addresses of the form lastname + . + first initial + @sxu.edu, for instance, lastname.f@sxu.edu.
Students receive domain user names of the form first initial + last initial + last 3 digits of your student number + two serializing digits, for instance, fl45622. Note that you may have an "o" (oh), a "0" (zero), an "l" (el), or a "1" (one) in your username. Please check whether it is located in the string of letters or in the string of numerals to be sure which it is.
Students who have registered before the Spring Semester 2007 should continue to use their existing user names for Blackboard, for instance, flastname2, their existing university electronic mailbox address (and user name), for instance, f.lastname.2@sxu.edu, and their existing user names for Claws, for instance, f.lastname.2.
Students who register starting the Spring Semester 2007 should use their SXU domain user name for accessing Blackboard and for accessing Claws. These students will receive a university electronic mailbox address (and user name) of the form lastname + . + firstinitial + two serializing digits + @sxu.edu, for instance, lastname.f22@sxu.edu.
While the passwords for the SXU domain, Blackboard, Claws, and electronic mail for students may initially be identical, these passwords are set independently at this time and can differ unless a student maintains them to be identical.
SXU domain passwords expire every 60 days (that is, about twice each semester) to protect the integrity and privacy of the information that you and others save in their folders. When logging in to services on the University Web site, students will be notified if their password is due to expire within the next ten days and will be given the opportunity to change their password before it expires.
The passwords for Claws, Blackboard, and student electronic mail do not expire at this time, but Claws and Blackboard will eventually be connected to the SXU domain, and the passwords for these systems will be expired and updated through the SXU domain.
Students are encourages to change their passwords often to increase security. You may change your password by using the Change Password form on the Web site.
A student can reset their forgotten SXU domain password at any time by using the Reset Password form on the Web site. A temporary password is sent to the student’s University electronic mailbox. Students should immediately change that password to a strong password of their own construction.
To encourage the use of strong passwords, domain passwords must meet the following requirements:
