If you need to report non-working equipment or wish to request installation of software or hardware, please call Extension 3291, the Help Desk for all on-campus software and hardware trouble reports. Or, you may fill out an online Help Desk ticket.

When you dial Extension 3291 the person staffing the Help Desk will complete a trouble report form which will help us to give you better and more efficient service. Some of the questions you will be asked include: type of equipment, type of software, your location, any screen messages, printer messages, or whether anyone else in your area experiencing the same type of problem.

Lab assistants

For assistance in the university computer labs, consult the lab assistant on duty. Our student lab assistants do their best to assist with software familiar to them, and are responsible for ensuring that those who use our facilities are entitled to do so, and that lab users are considerate of others.

We have created a computer network information line at ext. 3333 (or (773) 298-3333). Any time you are having problems getting connected to our web site or some other University server call this line to check the current status of our network. Network problems may be reported to the Help Desk at ext. 3291 (or (773) 298-3291).

Publications and documents available from Information Services include copies of the university Acceptable Use Policy, brochures listing the location and hours of operation of the computer labs, "Getting Started" sheets for e-mail users. For more information ask the Lab Assistant!

Here on the web site we have a number of additional documents available to assist e-mail and discussion list users as well as a collection of Frequently Asked Questions.

Residence Halls

Internet connectivity is available in the rooms of all Residence Halls (Regina, Pacelli, McCarthy, Morris, and Rubloff) as well as in the Dining Hall and the common areas on the first floors of both Morris and McCarthy Halls. Advice is available for students to help in selecting a laptop or desktop computer to bring to campus and making wireless or wired connections to the Internet.
