"This message has already been here" Error

Q.

I am not receiving any mail. When people try to send to me they get a message back that says, "Error -- (TERM) 554 this message has already been here."

A.

It is possible to set up a forwarding address so that incoming mail is sent on to some other e-mail account. However, if you try to set up your IMail account to forward to itself you will have created an infinite loop preventing mail delivery.

Log on to IMail using the web interface and select Change Mail Forwarding Information from the Personal Account Options drop-down box.

Changing mail forwarding information in IMail

The Change Forwarding screen (shown below) contains a text box into which you type the address to which you want all your mail forwarded. Your own SXU address should not appear in this box. If your address is, for example, labtest@sxu.edu and you set it to forward to labtest@sxu.edu you have created an infinite loop which will prevent mail delivery. Mail to you will bounce back to the sender with an error such as "Error -- (TERM) 554 this message has already been here."

Entering a forwarding address in IMail

To cancel forwarding clear the forwarding address so that the text box is empty and then click on Save.
