I tried to subscribe to an IMail discussion list but got back a long message with a subject "Illegal IMail List Server Command" and that gave me a list of valid IMail commands. The beginning of it looked like this:
From: imailsrv@mail.sxu.edu(List Server)
Subject: Illegal IMail List Server Command!
IMail List Server for Windows NT, Ipswitch, Inc.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Valid Commands are:
To subscribe to a list, send a mail message to "imailsrv" at
this address with the following in the body of the message:
subscribe listname your_full_name
I am sure that I sent a valid subscribe command in the form subscribe listname firstname lastname so what went wrong?
Our experience has been that those who encounter this message have sent their subscribe request in HTML or Rich Text Format using an e-mail client program other than IMail Web Messaging. Be sure that when you send a subscribe message it is in plain text. This is usually controlled in the Preferences section of your e-mail client program.
For example, in Outlook 2000 you would pull down the Tools menu and select Options. Then on the Mail Format tab be sure the Message Format is Plain Text.

In Outlook Express you would pull down the Tools menu, select Options and then look on the Send tab to make sure the Mail Sending Format is Plain Text.

Netscape users will find Formatting preferences can be specified by pulling down the Edit menu and selecting Preferences.

If you use Hotmail you should look for a Tools drop-down box on the Compose screen that allows you to turn off the Rich Text Editor.
