Qualifications
- Must be SXU registered student. (undergraduate or graduate)
- Aptitude and interest in working with computer hardware and software.
- High work ethic.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to work with a group towards the completion of a project/repair.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Train lab assistants in using the software found in the labs, including MS Office, Netscape, etc.
- Assist with software development or maintenance as directed by the Applications Coordinator.
- Assist with computer equipment installations and moves.
- Do hardware repairs, examples: replacing floppy drives, sound cards, calling vendors and their help lines.
- Install software on PCs (including virus protection); restore software where applications are damaged or lost.
- Assist with network and other cabling; test and correct cabling problems.
- Tutor SXU employees in desktop software; network functions, Web and other Internet skills.
- Assist in maintaining the Help Desk, responding to calls for assistance as appropriate.
- Assist in coordinating Web and other Internet services as requested.
- Give daily status reports to appropriate Information Services personnel.
- Communicate status of request of departments before leaving their area using the appropriate form.
- Attend intern meetings approximately once a week.
- Attend training sessions before term begins.
- Document resolutions in the Help Desk system.
- Maintain an SXU e-mail account and read it regularly.
- Other duties as assigned.
Compensation
- Working 10 hours per week plus 1 hour meeting per week for the 15 weeks of the semester = the equivalent of 4.5 hours tuition billing for this semester.
