Change in Remote Authentication

On February 1, 2008, to improve security, the Library changed its procedure for remote authentication to its databases. Patrons no longer use the 14-digit number found on the bottom of their Cougar Cards. Instead, they enter the same user and domain names used to log onto computers on campus. For more information, please see the SXU domain information.

This page lists all the Library's databases in alphabetical order. If you prefer, follow the links on the left to the databases listed by subject.

The Library also provides a complete alphabetical list of its 20,000+ journal titles available in print or full-text online.

Refworks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows you to create your own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. You can use these references in writing papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography. You must set up a free individual account in Refworks.

Academic Search Premier provides full text articles from over 4,700 journals in many subject areas, plus indexing for another 3,500 journals. Take a quick tutorial for Academic Search Premier.

ACM Digital Library provides full text articles from the Association of Computing Machinery. The ACM Guide to Computing Literature provides citations and abstracts of works published by ACM and other publishers. The Library receives full text of the regular ACM journals. It does not have access to the proceedings of the ACM or publications of the Special Interest Groups.

America: History and Life provides citations and limited full text, to articles and book reviews on United States and Canadian history. For articles and book reviews about world history since 1450, use Historical Abstracts.

American Chemical Society Publications contains the full text of ACS journals and magazines dating back to 1896. Click on "Search the Journals" or "Journals and Magazines" to begin your search.

The Annual Review of Political Science, Annual Review of Psychology, and Annual Review of Sociology provides provides provides authoritative, analytic reviews of the professional literature. The Library subscribes to the editions dated 1996 to the present.

Art Abstracts provides citations only, no full text, to articles and indexes reproductions of works of art that appear in periodicals.

Article First indexes the tables of contents to 16,000 journals in many fields.

The Astrophysics Data System provides abstracts and select full text articles on astronomy and related fields.

ATLA Religion Database provides citations only, no full text, to articles on religious and theological scholarship.

BIOSIS Previews (via ISI Web of Knowledge) indexes and abstracts journals, conference and meeting reports, and patents in the life sciences. The Library subscribes to the the editions for 2003 to the present. Up to six simultaneous users may use BIOSIS Previews.

Business Source Complete provides full text content for over 1,200 business journals, as well as conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, industry reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles, and SWOT analyses.

Catholic Encyclopedia (2003 edition) provides information on Catholic interests, action and doctrine. The Jubilee volume focuses on the pontificate of John Paul II.

Chaucer Bibliography Online provides citations only, no full text, to articles about Chaucer.

Chicago Tribune contains full text articles dating from 1985. The Chicago Tribune historical files provide articles dating from 1849 to 1985.

Chronicle of Higher Education provides full text access to issues since January 1995. Articles from 1989-1995 can be searched using the "search the site" feature.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text provides the complete CINAHL index, full text coverage for more than 560 journals, and quick lessons and care sheets on a wide variety of nursing and allied health topics.

ClasePeriodica is an index of Latin American journals in the sciences and humanities.

Clinical Pharmacology contains information on prescription drugs, herbal and nutritional supplements, and over-the-counter products.

Clinical Trial Databases provides information about public and private clinical trials.

ComDisDome provides access to journal articles, dissertations, grants, refereed web resources, and book content in the fields of audiology and speech language pathology.

Communication & Mass Media Complete provides citations and full text articles in communication, journalism, mass media, and related subject areas.

CQ Electronic Library provides research resources in American government, politics, history, public policy, and current affairs.

Criminal Justice Periodicals provides citations and full text articles to journals related to criminal justice.

EBSCO Animals provides citations and full text articles on the nature and habitat of familiar animals.

ECO provides full text access to journals which the Library owns in print.

ERIC contains full text digests and citations and abstracts from education-related journals.

Ethnic Newswatch is a full text database of 240 newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press.

Expanded Academic ASAP provides citations and full text articles in a wide variety of disciplines.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia is searchable by subject or keywords within the entry.

GDB Genome Database contains descriptions and maps of the human genome.

GenBank is a database of publicly available DNA sequences.

GPO provides citations to all types of U.S. government documents, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments.

Handbook of Latin American Studies provides citations, no full text, to works on Latin America.

HarpWeek provides electronic access to Harper’s Weekly for the years 1857-1912.

Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition provides citations and full text articles for medically-related journals.

Historical Abstracts provides citations and limited full text to articles and book reviews about world history since 1450. For U.S. and Canadian history, use America: History and Life.

The HSDL (Homeland Security Document Library) collection provides quick access to important U.S. policy documents, presidential directives, and national strategy documents as well as specialized resources such as theses and reports from various universities, organizations and local and state agencies.

HSTAT (Health Services/Technology Assessment Texts) provides full-text health information documents from federal and state agencies.

Illinois Catalog provides bibliographic records for audiovisual materials, books, journals, manuscripts and other items owned by all Illinois libraries that are part of the OCLC consortium. For worldwide coverage, see Worldcat.

Illinois County Statistical Abstract provides economic and demographic data for every county in Illinois.

Illinois Department of Public Health provides access to a wide variety of health statistics.

Illinois Researcher Information Service contains funding opportunities in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.

IllinoisData provides extensive data and graphs on Illinois agriculture, business, crime, demographics, education, housing and construction, labor market and population.

Index Islamicus provides citations, no full text, to publications in European languages from 1906 to the present on all aspects of Islam and the Muslim world.

Ingenta provides tables of contents to journals in a variety of fields. You may purchase full- text articles (you are responsible for any purchases, the Library does not pay).

International Medieval Bibliography provides citations to journal articles about European history from 400-1500.

International Plant Names Index is a database of the names and associated basic bibliographical details of all seed plants.

JSTOR contains full text articles of many journals in the arts and sciences, starting with the very first issues. The Library subscribes to the Arts & Sciences I-IV collections.

KCDL Online provides curriculum information on a variety of subjects covered in PreK-12 and Adult Basic Education.

Latin Americanist Research Resources provides citations to journals published in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.

Lexis-Nexis provides full-text documents from business, legal, medical, and reference publications; newspapers (including the New York Times since 2002), wire services, broadcast transcripts, international news, and non-English language sources; U.S. Federal and state case law, codes, regulations, legal news, law reviews, and international legal information; Shepard’s Citations for all U.S. Supreme Court cases back to 1789; business news journals, company financial information, SEC filings and reports, and industry and market news.

Literature Resource Center provides access to biographies, bibliographies and critical analysis of authors from every age and literary discipline.

MAS Ultra provides full text from popular general interest and current events publication, Magill book reviews, Columbia Encyclopedia, CIA World Fact Book, World Almanac, and the Book of Facts.

Medline is an electronic version of the print indexes Index Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing Index.

MedlinePlus contains lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and dictionaries, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials.

Mental Measurements Yearbook contains information and reviews of tests in categories such as personality, developmental, behavioral assessment, neuropsychological, achievement, intelligence and aptitude, educational and speech and hearing.

Mergent Online provides information on over 10,000 US public companies and many international companies, including SEC filings, annual reports, institutional holders, history, news reports and industry analysis. Begin your search by clicking on "Enter Mergent Online."

Middle English Compendium provides access to an online version of the Middle English Dictionary.

Military & Government Collection provides citations and full text articles in military related periodicals and general interest magazines.

MLA International Bibliography indexes books, essay collections, journal articles, working papers, proceedings, dissertations and bibliographies.

Music Index provides citations only, no full text, to articles about music, musicians and the music industry.

NetLibrary (E-Books) accesses full text reference, scholarly, and professional books.

Newspaper Source provides full text for regional U.S. newspapers, international newspapers, newswires, newspaper columns, The Christian Science Monitor and The Los Angeles Times.

The New York Times historical files are available from 1851-2002. For articles in the New York Times after 2002, use Lexis-Nexis.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center provides articles, topic overviews, primary source documents, statistics, images and podcasts on a wide variety of contemporary social issues. It also provides national and state curriculum standards.

The Oxford English Dictionary Online contains the complete text of the second edition and updates.

PapersFirst is an index to papers presented at every published conference, congress, exposition, meeting, symposium and workshop received by the British Library Document Supply Centre.

Periodicals Abstracts provides citations to general and academic journals.

Philosopher's Index provides indexing and abstracts, no full text, from books and journals of philosophy and related fields.

Political Database of the Americas provides information on Latin American politics.

Population Index provides information from 1986 to the present on fields of interest to demographers.

Primary Search provides full text for popular magazines for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).

Proceedings is an index to proceedings of every published conference, congress, exposition, meeting, symposium and workshop received by the British Library Document Supply Centre.

Professional Development Collection provides citations and full text articles from education related journals.

Project Muse provides full text access to journals in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The Library subscribes to the standard edition of Muse.

PsycARTICLES provides full text articles on current issues in psychology from journals published by American Psychological Association and allied organizations.

PsycINFO contains abstracts and citations, with some linked full text, to articles in psychology related fields.

Regional Business News provides coverage of business journals, newspapers and newswires.

ScienceDirect provides full text articles to over 2,000 peer-reviewed journals in the health, life and physical sciences. The Library subscribes to full text dating back to January 2001.

Scopus is the world's largest, most comprehensive index to the science, medical, technical and social science literature. Scopus cites articles from 14,000 peer-reviewed titles with abstracts dating back to 1966.

Serials Solutions provides a listing of all journals that the Library receives in print or full text online.

Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage provides access to S&P's research products including Industry Surveys, Corporation Records, Stock Guide, Stock Reports, Bond Guide, Dividend Record, Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives, Earnings Guide and The Outlook.

Testing and Education Reference Center provides extensive data on colleges, universities, and scholarships. You can take online practice tests and use test prep eBooks.

Title Source III lists books and other materials from North American publishers. Requires the use of a password which the library staff will issue only to SXU faculty.

TOXNET contains information toxicology, hazardous chemicals and related areas.

The US Patent Full-Text Database includes all US patents dating from 1790. Patents from January 1976 to the present offer the full searchable text.

Value Line Investment Survey is an investment information service covering about 1,700 equity issues, model portfolios and economic and stock-market statistics.

Wall Street Journal contains full text articles from 1984 to the present.

Wilson Select Plus provides full text articles in science, humanities, education and business.

World Almanac contains the Funk & Wagnall's New Encyclopedia, The World Almanac and Book of Facts, The World Almanac of the U.S.A., The World Almanac of U.S. Politics and The World Almanac for Kids.

World Shakespeare Bibliography provides citations to resources related to Shakespeare.
