Movies and Educational Videos
This page allows you to quickly search for movies and educational videos by well known actors, actresses, collections, directors, genres, production companies, and subjects. Films listed under "Location" were either produced or set in that place. Check the catalog if you can't locate a specific title using the lists.
The Library acquires videos that support teaching, research and learning, and does not attempt to compete with video stores or public libraries. The four priorities for purchasing are:
- recommendations from faculty
- important films by major directors
- films in the Criterion Collection, which is a private company that distributes important foreign and US classics films, restored to their original look
- films on the National Film Registry, which are American films that are at least ten years old, "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant," and selected annually by the Librarian of Congress
Faculty borrow audio-visual materials for thirty days. All others can borrow for seven days. Beginning February 1, 2008, students and staff can also borrow VHS tapes and educational videos except where noted on the item. Please see the Borrowing page for details on borrowing and fines policies.
