Spring 2008

Change in Remote Authentication

On February 1, 2008, to improve security, the Library changed its procedure for remote authentication to its databases. Patrons no longer use the 14-digit number found on the bottom of their Cougar Cards. Instead, they enter the same user and domain names used to log onto computers on campus. Budget Reductions

The Library has undertaken a series of actions to help deal with the unplanned budget reductions for this fiscal year. The Library suspended about 50 print journal titles and canceled a number of book and audiovisual orders. In addition, the Library suspended its subscription to the SAGE Premier database, effective March 11.

Database Changes

As of March 11, 2008, the Library suspended its subscription to Sage Premier.

As of February 1, 2008, the Library ended its subscription to Annual Reviews.

As of January 15, 2008, the Library ended its subscription to the AskAway chat reference service.

As of January 1, 2008, the Library began subscriptions to:

• Index Islamicus
• RefWorks
• Wall Street Journal (with coverage from 1984 to the present) and ended its subscription to the WSJ's historical files.

As of October 15, 2007, the America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts databases are available only from Ebsco.

As of July 1, 2007:

• the CINAHL database is only from Ebsco. The Library ended its subscription to CINAHL from Proquest and the Proquest Nursing Journals database. Instead, the Library subscribed to CINAHL Plus with Full Text from Ebsco, which provides more extensive indexing and full text coverage.
• the Library subscribed to Business Source Complete, which replaced Hospitality and Tourism Complete and Business Source Premier.
• the Library no longer provides access to ABI/Inform. The vendor ended the contract with the Illinois State Library, which had then made it available to academic libraries throughout the state.
• the Library ended its subscription to the SRDS Media Solutions database.

Off-Site Storage

The Library has completed sending all books not checked out in ten (10) years to off-site storage. Also sent to storage were all cancelled journals and currently subscribed journals with volumes predating 2003.
