The Byrne Memorial Library serves as a resource to the Chicago-area community, and strives to provide a pleasant experience for all patrons. The Library asks that all patrons respect the following guidelines to ensure a successful visit to the Library.
Faculty, staff, students and alumni of Saint Xavier University have priority access to the Library and its resources. Persons who are not members of the Saint Xavier University community are welcome to use Library’s copiers; the microform collection and its readers and printers; and the printed book, journal and newspaper collections. However, persons not affiliated with the University may not obtain materials from off-site storage, or operate workstations, laptops, databases, printers, software or similar items except those workstations designated for public use. Book lending services are made available to patrons of other university libraries in accordance with the agreements that the Library has established with those institutions. See the Borrowing, Use and Fines page for more information.
The Byrne Memorial Library maintains an atmosphere conducive to study. The Library staff will warn patrons who appear to be without legitimate educational purposes or who are disruptive. If the behavior persists, the Library staff may contact Public Safety and the patron will be asked to leave.
Saint Xavier University is concerned for the safety of all Library patrons. Parents, guardians, or responsible caregivers must directly supervise children under thirteen (13) years of age.
The Library staff will not deny access to any persons because of race, creed, color, age, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
Approved, January 2005, by the Director of Byrne Memorial Library; Director of Information Systems; Director of Public Safety; Associate Director for Community Relations; Vice-President for Academic Affairs; Vice-President for Business and Finance and the Vice-President for Public Relations.
