Office for University Mission and Heritage

The work of the Office for University Mission and Heritage is to focus the University community on its mission, core values, Catholic identity and Mercy heritage.

The Office for University and Mission includes the Office of the Vice-President for University Mission and Heritage and the Center for Religion and Public Discourse.

The work of the Vice-President for University Mission and Heritage is three-fold:

To assist the University community in becoming more focused on, intentional about and accountable for addressing its mission of providing high quality undergraduate and graduate degree programs marked by excellence in teaching.
To ensure and promote the University’s Catholic identity and Mercy heritage.
To design structures, programs, practices and celebrations that focus resources and actions on the University’s core values, mission and heritage.

Under the auspices of the Office for University Mission and Heritage, the Center for Religion and Public Discourse addresses the following goals:

To create an intellectual and civil “free zone” where value-driven, ethical or religious perspectives are sought to inform consideration of economic, political, social, scientific or artistic issues.
To provide a series of programs and scholarly activities that engage the campus and local communities in discourse and debate about the common good.
