Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC)

The Saint Xavier University Music Department has a chapter of the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference on campus.  Our collegiate chapter has received an award every year for outstanding membership.  For more information, contact the chapter moderator Martha Morris.

Events/Projects

Annual Halloween Benefit Concert

CMENCSponsored and presented by CMENC every year.  Proceeds from the concert are given to a children’s foundation each year.  CMENC members decide which foundation they wish to sponsor each year. 

Past foundations:

  • Fall 2004 - Make a Wish Foundation
  • Fall 2003 - Hope Children’s Hospital (Oak Lawn)
  • Fall 2002 - Children’s Leukemia
  • Fall 2001 - Juvenile Diabetes Foundation

Docent Program

Takes place in Spring of every year.  Special concerts presented by various SXU ensembles to area elementary, junior and senior high schools.  Prior to the concert, SXU music students (docents) go to the schools who will attend the concert at SXU and provide introductory information to the students.

Previous docent programs included:

  • Introduction to the Instruments in a Band (created for elementary students)
  • What’s Jazz All About (created for elementary students)
  • Handel’s  “Messiah” - What is it (created for elementary students)

Karaoke Night

Take place in the Spring of each year.  Open to all SXU students

Trips into City of Chicago to:

  • Lyric Opera
  • Chicago Symphony
  • Chicago Opera Theatre
