SXU Symphonic Orchestra to perform Peter and the Wolf on Dec. 4
Featuring special guest narrator “Mr. McFeely” of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood
Chicago (Nov. 18, 2009) Saint Xavier University’s Symphonic Orchestra will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s timeless children’s classic Peter and the Wolf with special guest narrator David Newell, who portrayed the beloved character of the postman Mr. McFeely on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
The performance is at 7:30 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 4 in the Warde Academic Center’s Ensemble Performance Space on the Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. The event is open to the public and general admission is $6.
A children’s matinee performance will be held at 11 a.m. in the same location. More than 1,200 local elementary school children are expected to attend the performance.
Mr. Newell will be available to visit the audience and sign autographs after the performance. Additionally, Saint Xavier will host a free screening of “Speedy Delivery” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 in McGuire Hall. The 2008 documentary chronicles Newell’s efforts around the globe to keep Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood alive despite major transitions in children’s television programming.
Saint Xavier Music Professor and Director of Instrumental Ensembles Margaret Young-Weitzel will conduct the performance.
