Saint Xavier receives donation from ARAMARK for athletic fields

Money earmarked for upgrades

Chicago (Nov. 7, 2005) – Saint Xavier University will receive a monetary donation from ARAMARK to upgrade the university’s outdoor athletic facilities.

The money will be donated over a five-year period and will be used to improve and upgrade SXU’s outdoor athletic facilities, which include football, baseball, softball and soccer fields as well as an outdoor sports center on the Chicago campus at 3700 W. 103rd St.

“This helps us move toward implementing our broad-based campus master plan,” said Steven Murphy, vice president of University Advancement. “This will help us provide great facilities for our Cougar athletic programs and the SXU community, but it also lays the groundwork for other campus improvements.”

The announcement came as part of an innovative partnership between Saint Xavier University and ARAMARK to continue its pioneering comprehensive facilities management relationship with ARAMARK. Since 1991, Saint Xavier has realized significant savings in its plant operations and benefited from the expertise of ARAMARK’s national leadership in facilities management.

In renewing its relationship with ARAMARK, Saint Xavier University is again at the forefront of universities integrating proven business practices to contain costs, improve performance, and enhance the campus experience.

“We are committed to providing the best living and learning environment for our students, and this partnership demonstrates that,” said Paul Matthews, assistant vice president of facilities management at Saint Xavier University.

Susan Piros, vice president of Business & Finance, noted that by outsourcing management of the campus buildings and grounds to ARAMARK, the university is able to concentrate on its core mission.

ARAMARK has worked closely with the university in recent years as it developed an aggressive strategy plan, including construction of the new Orland Park campus, which opened in January 2004. ARAMARK is also working with Saint Xavier as it plans to break ground on a new athletic field project.

As a national leader in education facilities management, ARAMARK understands the importance of well designed and maintained facilities to an effective learning environment. ARAMARK also believes that the company should get involved where it works.

Founded in 1846 by the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Xavier University of Chicago is a leading four-year institution serving more than 5,700 students in the tradition of academic rigor and the Mercy values of service, lifelong learning and integrity. With campuses in Chicago and Orland Park, the university offers 35 undergraduate majors and 40 graduate programs in arts and sciences, business administration, education, nursing and continuing and professional education.
