Saint Xavier University to host annual Job Fair

Students, community welcome to attend March 27 event

Chicago (Feb. 27, 2006) – Saint Xavier University is hosting its annual Job Fair on Monday, March 27, from noon to 3 p.m. in the Shannon Center at Saint Xavier University’s Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

The event is free and open to students of all majors, as well as to members of the community and students from neighboring community colleges and universities.

More than 70 employers will be on hand at this year’s job fair, recruiting for entry-level and professional level positions as well as internship positions. Various fields will be represented, including health care, law enforcement and education.

“Although we hear that the economy is growing stronger, it is still a slow recovery. It’s never too early for students to look for internships or full-time positions to gain that edge,” said Mary D. Fitzpatrick, assistant director of employer relations in Saint Xavier University’s Counseling and Career Services. 

“We also want to extend an invitation to area residents who may be looking for work This is a terrific opportunity for anyone who is looking for professional work to see many recruiters at once,” Fitzpatrick said.

Employers scheduled to participate in the job fair include Applied Systems; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; Chicago Public Schools; Federal Bureau of Investigation; First Investors Corporation; George Washington Savings Bank; Grundy County Special Education Cooperative; Ingalls Memorial Hospital; Mercy Home for Boys and Girls; Oberweis Dairy; Palos Community Hospital; Wells Fargo; Providence Catholic High School; and the University of Chicago Hospital.

Job seekers should bring copies of their résumés and dress professionally. Saint Xavier University students may leave with more than job prospects. Current SXU students can enter a raffle by submitting a copy of their résumé as an entry form. Prizes include a DVD player, an iPod, a digital camera and SXU Bookstore gift certificates.
