Saint Xavier University and Joliet Junior College agreement
Nursing students benefit from partnership
Chicago (April 20, 2006) – In an effort to stem the nursing shortage, Saint Xavier University and Joliet Junior College have signed a dual admission agreement to offer nursing students a unique educational opportunity.
Under the agreement, Joliet Junior College students earning an associate in applied science degree in Nursing can complete a bachelor of science degree in Nursing at Saint Xavier’s Orland Park campus. Student progress is facilitated through timely completion of program requirements and improved sequencing of learning experiences.
“Joliet Junior College nursing students receive a strong foundation in the art and science of nursing. It is an honor to work with Joliet Junior College to advance their students into our baccalaureate program,” said Anne R. Bavier, Ph.D., dean of the School of Nursing at Saint Xavier University.
The agreement makes the process of earning an associate’s and a bachelor’s degree easy and seamless by enabling Joliet Junior College students to create a four-year plan for completing their bachelor’s degrees at Saint Xavier University. As long as continuous enrollment is maintained, this agreement ensures a smooth transfer of credits between institutions, guarantees graduation requirements are met and facilitates early financial planning.
“We encourage our nursing graduates to be lifelong learners and to pursue advanced education. The dual admission agreement with Saint Xavier University will provide our students with a seamless transition for pursuing their baccalaureate degree,” said Michaelene Nash, M.S., R.N., chair of the Department of Nursing Education and Allied Health at Joliet Junior College.
The agreement helps Saint Xavier University and Joliet Junior College work together to train enough qualified nurses to deliver quality health care and safely meet the needs of a diverse population into the new century.
“We are delighted to launch this dual admission agreement with Joliet Junior College, a close neighbor to our Orland Park campus. Together, we will serve individuals who study nursing and prepare them for the complex health arenas of the future,” said Judith A. Dwyer, Ph.D., president of Saint Xavier University.
Participating students benefit from guidance from both institutions, which provides access to a wider array of choices for academic planning to meet student’s personal goals, preferences and needs. In addition, financial aid counselors from both schools will be available to advise students regarding scholarships and financing.
